Digital humanism in the cyber age

Ten years of Cybersecurity Dialogues in a fast-evolving cyber world had to be celebrated. The 10th edition looked back at the first decade of the Dialogues and the ICT evolution since our foundation in 2013 — and forward to the end of the decade and beyond.

The last decade was characterised by a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) environment. Now we enter a brittle, anxious, non-linear and incomprehensible (BANI) world — and the stakes will be even higher in the decade ahead.

From smartphones, social media and 3D printing to AI, virtual reality and blockchain, every technology of the past ten years shares one thing: it relies on the internet and on critical infrastructures. Quantum computing, IoT and 5G are next.

Cybersecurity in the next decade will entail digital humanism, human rights, democracy, inclusion and diversity. Embracing new technologies responsibly and ethically, in a cybersecure world, will be crucial.

A

AI & Quantum

The convergence of AI, quantum technologies and ChatGPT reshapes both attack and defence.

H

Human factor

Humans are still the weak link, qualified personnel is scarce and the distance to technology keeps growing.

D

Damage

Cyberattacks could severely damage economies at 5% of GDP — already over 3% in Germany.

S

Sovereignty

The role of the GAFA and NATU is increasingly unacceptable for democracies.

// About the congress

An annual, non-profit, apolitical, neutral, non-marketing and non-technical 360° international dialogue on cybersecurity.

Since 2014 the congress has rested under the high patronage of the Swiss Embassy in Romania, and in 2015 the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) designated it a “best practice example for the European continent”.
